The Sun and Moon

      “Double congratulations my lady,” Sai Ronin exclaimed. His autumn brown hair framed his heart shaped face and his teal eyes watered with happiness. In his arms laid infant A, a girl her face a pretty shade of pink. She was wrapped in a swaddling baby blue satin robes before being laid in her mother’s long pale arms. Aleera beamed carding her daughter. Sai remained stationary between Aleera’s legs as he gentle picked up infant B, also a girl. “Twins again my lady,” Sai giggled. Six years prior Aleera had given birth to identical twin boys Anglious and Julian. Sai also was the one who delivered them.
       “My little one welcome to the world,” Aleera cooned. She looked radiant despite her tangled sweat drenched silver hair and the black rims under her light blue eyes. Her voice immediately hitched with fear as the astrological sign of Mercury began to appear on the infant’s forehead. The mark was identical to Aleera’s and the mother began to cry out hysterically. “No! No! No! Please Selene spare her! I don’t want her to suffer,” Aleera cried startling the child in her arms.
     Sai sadly bite his tongue and showed Aleera the younger twin. She too had a astrological sign on her head. This time it was Pluto. Aleera nearly broke down. Her twin sister, Athena had the same sign. ‘The curse has happened again,” Aleera thought. ‘For millennia my family has the elemental powers over wind and ice. My sister and I were the last set of them. I was wind and she was ice. I thought the curse would be broken since Athena died six years ago but now my daughters are the latest twins to bear the curse. Why must it always be twin girls?’
   “I am sorry Aleera,” Sai pipped up.
   “Did you know,” Aleera’s voice turned icy. Sai looked away. “Why didn’t you…” Aleera’s anger flared then vanished. “Thank you for not telling me. I understand why you didn’t. You were afraid I’d try to abort or kill myself as Athena, my dear sister did. I forgive you.” Aleera stopped sobbing holding onto her daughter for dear life. “I could never…I would never…I love you so very much,” Aleera told her baby girls. “Mommy loves you so much. The infants opened their eyes in response to their mother’s voice. “Aquamarine blue” Aleera gasped with wonder. “Serena,” Aleera cooed at infant A. “My little moon.”
    Sai smiled handing her the unnamed infant. The mother gently cradled both girls. Aleera was overcome with sadness as she thought of her late sister. Aleera was overcome with relief that both girls were healthy, “My little sunshine,” Aleera cooed. “Sienna, my little sun.”
“I’ll go fetch Yue,” Sai smiled. Aleera was handling the news better than Sai thought. ‘She’s handling it like her mother, Eowyn did when Aleera and Athena were born. Ah that labor was one of my most difficult ones,” Sai excused himself, opening the bedroom door and collided with a hard chest.
   “Ow Yue,” Sai sighed. “Close much.”
   “What did you do?” Yue hissed.
   “Delivered your wife of twin girls.”
   “What did you do to make Aleera cry?”
   “Oh nothing.”
   “Liar”
   “I beg your pardon but I would never lie you naughty boy. If you recall I delivered you into this world too against your father’s wishes and this is the thanks I get?”
Yue pushed passed him and closed the door behind him. “You’re welcome!” Sai shouted.
Yue advanced towards the bed and sighed with relief to see Aleera’s radiant face. “My moon, are you well my love?” Yue asked in a sing song voice.
      “Very my love,” Aleera replied loving. “Come meet your daughters.” Yue slid onto the bed to sit next to his wife. “They are beautiful like their mother,” Yue commented extremely proud. “Are they healthy?”
“Yes and no,” Aleera replied her smile vanishing for a quick second.
       “Why no darling? I don’t see any deformities,” Yue replied puzzled holding Serena. Laying her down on his lap, he unwrapped the robes examining his daughter.
“That one is Serena and she has my gifted,” Aleera tried to sound positive.
“And my eyes,” Yue replied happily. “And my other little girl” Yue looked at Sienna in Aleera’s arms.
     “Sienna, after your sister has Athena’s.”
     “They are perfect,” Yue smiled with pride taking Sienna into his arms holding both his girls. “My little angels.” The fact Yue didn’t mind filled Aleera with newfound love for her husband. “I love you so very much my love.”
     “And I you my moon.”
